In the wake of devastating flooding in Texas that resulted in the loss of numerous lives, First Lady Melania Trump extended a sincere message of compassion and resilience to the bereaved families.
On Saturday morning, she posted on X, addressing the tragic death toll of 27 individuals—many of whom were children—after flash floods ravaged regions such as Kerr County and obliterated Camp Mystic.
“In this difficult time, my thoughts and prayers are with the parents in Texas,” she expressed. “I am praying for you and holding you in my prayers for strength, comfort, and resilience.”
Her words struck a chord as over 20 children remain unaccounted for. Families nationwide are in mourning and anxiously awaiting updates.
Among those confirmed deceased is 9-year-old Janie Hunt. Another camper, 13-year-old Elinor Lester, survived and recounted harrowing images of chaos—children being airlifted by helicopter, clinging to ropes over collapsed bridges, and cabins being swept away.
“The camp was completely destroyed,” Elinor remarked.
The Guadalupe River surged nearly 30 feet in less than two hours, overwhelming flood gauges and surprising even experienced meteorologists.
President Donald Trump described the calamity as “shocking,” pledging comprehensive federal assistance. “Young lives have been lost. Texas will receive the necessary support. Whatever they require,” he stated. Rescue operations are ongoing, with 400 responders, helicopters, and drones actively searching for survivors.
Melania’s understated message of solidarity provided a moment of solace during a week marked by sorrow—a reminder that the nation mourns collectively and stands with those enduring unimaginable grief.
