Ella of Frell (Anne Hathaway) is born with a peculiar gift—or curse—of obedience, bestowed upon her by a well-meaning but careless fairy godmother, Lucinda (Vivica A. Fox). This means Ella must obey any direct command, no matter how absurd or dangerous. After her mother’s passing, she is left with a cruel stepmother (Joanna Lumley) and two conniving stepsisters, who take advantage of her condition.
Determined to break the curse, Ella embarks on a journey to find Lucinda and demand that she lift the spell. Along the way, she encounters elves, ogres, and giants, all while unintentionally crossing paths with the charming Prince Char (Hugh Dancy), who is destined to become king. As romance blossoms between Ella and Char, she also uncovers a sinister plot by the prince’s scheming uncle, Sir Edgar (Cary Elwes), who seeks to control the kingdom.
Blending fairy tale magic with humor and adventure, Ella Enchanted is a lighthearted and entertaining film. Hathaway’s performance brings charm and wit to Ella, making her a strong and independent heroine. The movie also features a fun, modern twist with musical elements, including Hathaway’s rendition of "Somebody to Love."
While it diverges significantly from the book, Ella Enchanted remains a delightful watch for fans of fairy tale adaptations, offering a mix of romance, comedy, and empowering themes
